Sheppie Methodist Church cares for the homeless
The church's soup kitchen feeds more than 50 people every Thursday.
PORT Shepstone Methodist Church, also known as Sheppie Methodist Church, was established in the early 1920s.
The church is a part of the wider Methodist family of Southern Africa, but locally linked to the Port Shepstone Circuit, which stretches from Port Edward to the Umzumbe district along the coast and deep rural areas.
The Port Shepstone Methodist branch is a multiracial family church, seeking to make real the kingdom of God on the South Coast.
The congregation enjoys a busy social interaction, with several midweek fellowship opportunities and home Bible study groups.
From the Methodist’s pioneering roots the Port Shepstone branch has inherited a strong mission ethos.
The church has established a crèche which cares for over 100 children, many from underprivileged backgrounds in Merlewood.
The church believes in reaching out to the less fortunate. There is an inner city ministry which serves the indigent people of the Port Shepstone CBD and the ministry runs a soup kitchen which feeds 60 to 80 homeless people every Thursday.
The ministry also assists whenever possible with clothing and blankets during winter.
