Stabbed biker recovering well

His ordeal will not stop him from attending Africa Bike Week next year.

NEVILLE van Niekerk (52), the biker from Johannesburg who was stabbed by two men in Margate on May 1 during Africa Bike Week was discharged from hospital last Friday.

The chapter director of the Harley Owner’s Group at Clearwater said he is recuperating well at home and that his wounds are healing.

“I am extremely lucky to be alive. Never did I think that I or anyone else, would be attacked in Margate during an event of this magnitude,” said Mr van Niekerk.

“There was a huge influx of people walking all over Margate, but the police only concentrated on the section where  Africa Bike Week was taking place. This should not have been, as many people had to walk back to their accommodation and many of these places where not patrolled.”

He added that since he had been discharged from hospital, Margate police have not made any contact with him regarding the attack.

When asked if he would attend next years event, Mr van Niekerk replied, “Most certainly, yes.”
