Three caught for stealing copper

The men were caught carrying a length of copper cable, a hacksaw and a pick.

HIBISCUS Coast law enforcement officer Devlyn Abbott arrested a gang for stealing copper in Sunwich Port last Sunday.

The arrest is another break-through towards smashing  a large syndicate that appears to be operating in the area.

Officer Abbott was driving along the R102 near Sunwich Port when he noticed three suspicious looking men carrying a bag.

He stopped and searched the men and the bag. He found a length of copper cable, a hacksaw and a pick.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the men, all in their mid 20s, were arrested and taken to Southport SAPS where they were charged for being in possession of stolen property.

The men are expected to appear in Port Shepstone court soon.
