MARBURG Primary emerged as runners-up in the second schools’ volleyball tournament for 2014 played last Saturday. Marburg scored an outstanding seven points to comfortably become the runners- up. The school entered four teams in the tournament. The successful teams were the U12 and U14 girls’ teams, and the U14 boys’ team. The very young U12 boys’ team, which is in the development phase, won two out of their four matches but unfortunately did not make the semis on the points difference system.
The U14 boy’s team was captained by Dylan Bishop. They played a very strong Jai Hind Primary team in the semi- final and were eventually beaten by 25 points to 21. The U14 girls had an even tougher final against Hlanganani. It went into the final set and Hlanganani triumphed by two sets to one. The team was captained by Nikkay Choonoo.
The Marburg U12 girls’ team was again the surprise package of the tournament. Many of the girls were playing in their second tournament. The team grew from strength to strength in each match and finally lost to a much improved Hlanganani team in the final. It was a remarkable achievement for a relatively new team. Marburg Primary thanks all players and coaches for another fine achievement.
