ISLAMIC School’s U13s took part in the annual winter sports day hosted by Port Shepstone Senior Primary. Netball and soccer squads enjoyed the day’s activities and the objective of the day was to encourage sportsmanship and friendship and to have fun through ‘friendly’ tournaments.
Gr 10 pupils distributed sandwiches and water to patients at the Port Shepstone Clinic as part of the social outreach programme. Sister Vatiswa Vuza commended pupils for their generosity and signed pupils’ Voluntary Service Record Cards, which each pupil maintains. It was heartwarming to see the faces of patients light up with smiles as they received the refreshments.
At a special assembly last Friday, pupils were addressed by Moulana Imtiaz Kathrada on the challenges facing teenagers nowadays. Moulana encouraged pupils to seek wisdom and advice from teachers, elders and professionals.
Gr 2s visited Fiddlewood Farm in Margate, an exciting trip which was an extension of the classroom theme ‘Wild and Wonderful’. Pure Venom, the biggest reptile farm in Africa, played host to gr 3 pupils who were fascinated by the giant sungazer lizard. Pupils were guided through a variety of venomous and non-venomous snakes such as pythons, green mambas and anacondas, but the highlight was getting to hold a python.
