Snake rescue efforts in vain

The officers' actions are to be commended.

TRYING to escort a green mamba across a busy road earlier today was all in a day’s work for two Hibiscus Coast traffic officers.

Officer Sbu Cele spotted the one metre green mamba slithering across the road in Umzumbe, and tried to stop the traffic to allow the beautiful snake to cross safely.

But sadly he was unable to stop the traffic in time, and a car drove over the mamba’s head, killing it instantly.

Officer Devlyn Abbott immediately approached the snake to see if by some miracle it had survived, but was unfortunately unable to save its life.
