Baby dies at Hibberdene beachfront

The officer tried in vain to save the baby.

IT has been quite an emotional week for Hibiscus Coast law enforcement officer, Devlyn Abbott.

On Thursday he tried to save the life of a green mamba that had been run over by a motorist.

Yesterday he tried to resuscitate a four-month-old child at Hibberdene beachfront.

Officer Abbott received a call from a colleague informing him that a baby had died.

He and Warrant Officer Mossie Mostert from the crime intelligence unit responded immediately.

When they arrived on the scene, they found the baby wrapped in a blanket in the front seat of a car.

Officer Abbott unwrapped the baby and began to perform CPR in an effort to get it breathing again.

Sadly, it was too late as the baby was already dead. At this stage the mother of the child was crying hysterically.

While the officers were consoling the mother, paramedics arrived on the scene.

It’s unclear at this stage what caused the death, and what the gender of the child was.
