A GIRL (15) was raped after attending a traditional function in Shoba ward, Izingoweni last Sunday.
The teenager was heading home after the function when she was approached by a 78-year-old man, whom she knew.
“According to the girl the man said he would accompany her home,” said police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka.
“Along the way the man forced the girl into an abandoned house where he raped her before fleeing. The girl reported the incident to the police,” said Capt Mfeka.
He added that the next day community members from Shoba ward attempted to make a citizens’ arrest, but the suspect escaped. Police are now searching for the man.
The Margate Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) is investigating.
