MERLEWOOD Primary embarked on a child abuse awareness campaign during Child Protection Week. A fun walk was held last Friday, during which the gr 7 and 8 girls and ‘Soul Buddyz’ held placards calling for the return of the Nigerian girls kidnapped from their boarding school some months ago.
The children sought to create awareness within the community, as well as the school, of the ongoing lack of regard and respect for girls in some African countries and some places in South Africa. There was a call for change and for general child abuse to be addressed. The fun walk was a successful event and pupils enjoyed the opportunity to show their talents at the school’s mini-concert.
