AUTHORITIES conducted a successful ‘multi-force operation’ which resulted in about 30 people being arrested on Tuesday last week.
The crackdown was carried out by police and members of RTI, Hibiscus Coast Law Enforcement and Home Affairs.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the main target areas were Bhobhoyi, Murchison and the Port Shepstone taxi rank, the bus rank and the CBD.
“The operation focused on the arrest of wanted suspects, checking for stolen and/or altered motor vehicles, searching for unlicensed firearms and ammunition, drugs, stolen property and illegal immigrants,” she said.
Twelve people were arrested for possession of drugs which included 535 grammes of dagga and nine straws of heroin.
Thirty-three bottles of liquor were confiscated and 10 other people were arrested for common robbery, theft, assault, intimidation, dealing in liquor and offences under the Immigration Act. Six people were arrested and detained pending deportation.
A total of 15 vehicles were inspected and two motor vehicles, of which the identification numbers had been altered, were impounded.
Two flat screen televisions and one scanner were also recovered and are thought to be stolen property. One person was arrested in the Bhobhoyi area and will face a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
Major General Thembi Ndlovu, cluster commander of Port Shepstone took the lead as commander of the operation and said that she would conduct this type of operation with her members on a regular basis.
