Child (11) freed from drain pipe

The child was shaken, but not injured.

QUICK thinking emergency workers managed to free a girl (11) who was trapped in a drain pipe in Izingolweni area yesterday (Thursday).

The child had slipped buttocks first down the pipe while she was playing and became wedged in the narrow opening.

Port Shepstone SAPS Search and Rescue, Netcare 911 paramedics and Hibiscus Fire and Rescue Fire services received the call and responded immediately.

“As they were unable to cut through the pipe, emergency workers decided to put oil around the child’s body and gently pull herout,” said Chris Botha, Netcare 911 spokesman.
