A PORT Shepstone man (44) was allegedly kidnapped from a bank in the Port Shepstone CBD yesterday.
Police suspect the man went to cash a cheque for his employer and was then followed from the bank in Aiken Street and robbed.
When he failed to return from the bank or answer his cellphone, he was reported to the police as a missing person.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said a search was conducted. “The missing man was spotted in a bushy area in Southport by Sergeant Carel Beetge and was taken to the police station.”
She said the man appeared to be under the influence of ‘an unknown substance’.
“It’s thought that the man was followed from the bank, and forced to drink something. He was taken to hospital for treatment,” she said.
A case of kidnapping has been opened, and police are investigating.
Lt-Col Wiid warned people to extra careful when withdrawing large sums of money from a bank.
“Be on the lookout for anyone who may be following you, and it is advisable not to go to the bank alone if you are withdrawing or depositing cash.”
