A MAN wanted by police for various crimes on the South Coast was arrested on the R102 at Woodgrange, Hibberdene on Tuesday this week.
Protection Services officer Devlyn Abbott received information that the wanted man had boarded a taxi heading towards Hibberdene.
“Officer Abbott pulled over the first taxi he noticed at Woodgrange and found the man fitting the description in the taxi,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
“Andile Gambushe (25) was arrested by Officer Abbott and Officer Sbu Cele. They recovered a gas pistol which was in his possession. He is due to appear in court soon.”
Gambushe was on the run from police after escaping from custody in Ezinqoleni on September 16, 2013. He was also wanted for the theft of a firearm in Paddock.
He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm at Gamalakhe and was also involved in a business robbery at a Gamalakhe supermarket in September, together with another suspect.
