A WOMAN (90) was recently confronted by intruders in her room in a retirement village in Margate.
They threatened her with a knife and demanded money. They fled with a substantial amount of cash after they had tied her hands with a dressing gown and locked her in a room.
In another incident, a man has opened a robbery case after he and a friend were robbed of their cellphones.
He and his friend were in the Margate CBD when they approached by two men who threatened them with a gun and a knife, and demanded their cellphones. No arrests have been made.
“We urge the community to be extra vigilant during this holiday season as criminals take advantage of people who are in a relaxed mood,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
