Ugu apologises for water interruptions – again
A business in Marburg had to go without water for a month.

RESIDENTS of Marburg and Merlewood say they are tired of unscheduled water interruptions and, according to Councillor Ajith Rajaram, people living in Deepvale Park were without water for four days last week.
“I tried contacting Ugu officials, I even tried contacting the manager but no one returned my calls,” said Cllr Rajaram.
“Even the Ugu call centre is useless. We are bombarded with questions from residents and when we ask Ugu for information none is given.
“Ugu staff is incompetent,” he continued angrily. “It is unfair that the community is deprived of water.” Cllr Rajaram added that one business in Marburg had to deal with being without water for a month.
Ugu spokesman Sipho Khuzwayo assured residents that they will no longer experience water woes, as the pipeline replacement programme has been successfully completed.
“As projected by the municipality, the six-week pipeline replacement programme, which focused on troublesome areas of Ramsgate and Marburg, saw 3 400 metres of aged pipelines being replaced for improved water supply. This was completed at the end of June,” he said.
During this programme, communities experienced frequent water interruptions due to a series of shutdowns.
“Marburg had water interruptions for the past week due to the shutdown and tie-ins on Valley Road, Crescent Drive and the Main Harding Road. These shutdowns were expected as they were carried out as the pipes were laid,” said Mr Khuzwayo.
“The municipality apologises for any inconvenience that was caused during this upgrade project. We are glad to announce that we can now confidently say all Marburg tie-ins have been completed. The system has stabilised and the level of service has improved.”
