Filthy property causes a stink
Piles of rubbish, faeces, rotting vegetables and chickens kept in cages are seen on the premises.
NO words can describe the smell of a dead sheep lying among piles of faeces and litter.
This disgusting sight was seen on a property at the end of Oscar Nero Road in Marburg this week.
Bird breeder, Hannes du Toit, who lives adjacent to the property, is tired of the unhygienic practices taking place on the property.
While Mr du Toit keeps his property in pristine condition, his fence line is plagued with litter and filth.
To top it off, the Lower South Coast SPCA was called after a dead sheep, supposedly sacrificed in a ritual, was discovered on the property on Monday this week.
SPCA inspector, Lucky Jali thanked Mr du Toit for reporting it, and he warned the public against such practices.
According to Mr du Toit the businesses operating on the premises have been without water for three years, and employees are defecating in the surrounding bushes.
Piles of rubbish, faeces, rotting vegetables and chickens kept in cages are seen on the premises. The chickens are slaughtered, and their feathers burnt.
“When it rains the filth and faeces run down the embankment and into my property,” said Mr du Toit.
The problem has got progressively worse over the years, and he believes the unhygienic sludge that runs off the property is largely to blame for him not being able to breed his exotic birds.
Mr du Toit said calls to the health department had fallen on deaf ears.
The area is also a crime hot spot. “Even the police don’t come out to assist us when we phone them,” he said.
Mr du Toit feels his hands are tied and things would be easier if everyone just did their jobs.
“Surely the health inspectors can issue fines regarding the filth, dumping and the chickens which should not be kept on industrial premises,” he said.
No response was received from the municipality at the time of publication.
