East Coast Radio’s breakfast team throws out a challenge
East Coast Radio's Breakfast Tour will arrive on the South Coast this Sunday, July 20.
IF you are a South Coast bright spark aged between nine and 12 years and you are prepared to take on The Grand Challenge, then the team from East Coast Radio Breakfast with Darren Maule would love to hear from you.
Darren and the rest of the team will soon set off on a journey of discovery, visiting eight towns and cities in KwaZulu-Natal, from where they will broadcast their three-hour shows live.
Darren has chosen our part of the world for the second stop on the tour that will kick off in Umlazi, Durban on July 18. Get set to welcome the East Coast Radio Breakfast Tour when it rolls into the South Coast on the afternoon of July 20.
How well do you know your own towns? East Coast Radio Breakfast is looking for a young Port Shepstone or Margate resident to take on The Grand Challenge when the team broadcasts live from Port Shepstone on July 21. Do you know your local history, landmarks and legends? Can your child teach you a thing or two about your home town? If you want to take up the challenge SMS Smarty Pants, your name and area to 33116 to stand in line to enter. SMSes cost R1.50.
You’ve always heard Natarah ‘Natarah From A-far-ra’ Nadesan, Mak ‘Big Mak’ Dlamini and Gabriel ‘Good Guy Gabe’ Sithole rag Darren about his singing. And don’t even get them started on his dancing. See for yourself if the teasing is justified. The team members will be at the Cock and Tail in Margate on July 20 and they invite you to join them for sundowners. You can even throw down a challenge to Darren and see what happens. (What happens on the South Coast, stays on the South Coast!)
Then it’s time for some R&R before the team is up bright and early the next morning for their live broadcast from Port Shepstone, near the lighthouse.
As you know, sweet treats are a big hit with the team and that is why Darren is determined to find the best pancake maker on the South Coast! A handful of tannies will be baking up a storm while the live broadcast is on the go and Darren, Natarah, and Mak will decide on the winner. The official ‘Best Pancake Maker’ will go home with a gorgeous East Coast Radio gift pack.
While that’s ‘panning out’, The Grand Challenge will feature a local whiz kid who will test his or her knowledge of Margate and Port Shepstone against 10 questions designed especially for this live broadcast.
If ever you wanted to be on TV, now’s your chance. Darren, Natarah and Gabriel will be travelling with a 25-strong ECR team, including our East Coast TV crew and official tour photographer. So head down to the outside broadcast, meet Darren and the guys, get your pics taken, take your own if you like and be part of three hours of roller coasting fun. Darren loves telling stories but he also loves listening to them. Share yours with him and the team will be happy to share coffee and muffins with you.
