AfriForum wants ‘Wimpygate’ tapes

The organisation is insisting on being given access to recordings of relevant council meetings.

WHILE Wimpy owners Faurco Investments may have thrown in the towel, AfriForum hasn’t.

The civil rights organisation  insists there are ‘irregularities’ and is demanding answers from Umdoni. It is insisting on being given access to recordings of relevant council meetings, but so far in vain.

“AfriForum confronted the municipal manager,  Xolani Luthuli, regarding the municipality’s failure to make the audio recordings available at the full council meeting held in May this year,” said AfriForum’s Chris Fourie.

“Mr Luthuli informed us that he had already instructed Caron Douglas to furnish AfriForum with the recording. Mrs Douglas, however, confirmed that neither the municipal manager nor any other official instructed her to make the recording available to us.”

AfriForum plans to arrive at council chambers today (Wednesday) to listen to the audio recordings. Read the full story behind the story here.
