Nudist beach considered for the South Coast

The matter will be discussed at the next council meeting which takes place at the end of August.

A NUDIST beach is being considered for the South Coast, Hibiscus Coast Municipality manager, Max Mbili said at a media briefing held at the HCM council chambers on Tuesday.

This follows an application submitted by Christo Bothma, the interim chairman of the KwaZulu-Natal Naturist Association (KZNNA), for the part of Mpenjati beach north of the lagoon and Trafalgar beach to be proclaimed as a nudist-friendly beach.

“The applicant said a number of overseas visitors to South Africa are familiar and are comfortable with topless or naturist friendly beaches,” said Mr Mbili.

He added Mr Bothma also provided the standard code of conduct that governs the existing nudists and commits that this will be strictly adhered to.

“The application was made in March this year, but due to some communication challenges no response was given to the applicant. The municipality has decided that the matter should be discussed in the next council meeting, which will be at the end of August,” said Mr Mbili.

He added that before council makes a resolution on this issue, the community will also be given an opportunity to comment.

“We will publish an email address in the local newspapers where the public can send their views to the municipality,” he concluded.
