SOUTH Coast pupils showed a great deal of potential at the Southern KwaZulu-Natal Eskom Science Expo which was held at Harding High on Wednesday last week.
The pupils came from various schools and certainly impressed the judges. The different categories include civil science, chemistry, agricultural science, computer science and earth science.
The Department of Education’s regional manager, Sbonelo Khuzwayo, said this competition, which started in 2001, had been a great success as it had opened doors for many students who had received the opportunity to travel overseas to compete against other science boffins.
“The competition is held every year. We have produced a student from Creston College to represent our region in the competition,” he said.
A total of 22 pupils were awarded and will appear again at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair which will take place in Johannesburg from October 2 to October 10.
“We will call the pupils on August 14 to prepare them for the upcoming competition. In Johannesburg, there will be competitors from other parts of the world taking part. We are happy for our contestants as they have shown great potential,” said Khuzwayo.
