TURNOUT at this year’s Port Shepstone Senior Primary’s interhouse cross-country was the best in years. The cool weather on the day certainly played a role in boosting the enthusiasm shown by most pupils. There was a festive atmosphere as each pupil was congratulated at the finish line and Marlin house was the winner of the event.
Newly elected monitors for the second semester were treated to an outing at Creston College last Tuesday. This deserving group of pupils had the opportunity to watch Creston College’s production of ‘Madagafrica’, a play loosely based on the Madagascar stories. Pupils enjoyed the play filled with colourful costumes and impressive digital backdrops. All new monitors will be inducted at a special assembly on August 15.
The senior and junior field event finals were held this week and the long-distance event (1200m) takes place tomorrow, ahead of the interhouse athletics on August 21.
As an extension of the life skills curriculum, grade 4 pupils enjoyed a very successful ‘Cultural Day’ last Thursday. Dressed in traditional and religious outfits, pupils were able to share information and also enjoyed a picnic on the field where they shared samples of traditional food.
The junior assembly held last Friday focused on Women’s Day. Guest speaker, Denise Adam, shared her own experience as a child on Robben Island during which her father was head of the army based on the island and prior to the famous prison being built. She also gave a very informative talk on the importance of women in society.
