Fishy shoals but no sardines
KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board has sampled the passing shoals that are causing all the excitement.
WITH sightings of promising-looking shoals being reported and netters out hunting in many different spots, rumours of the arrival of the sardines are flying up and down the coast.
Unfortunately, the rumours are proving groundless.
According to KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board spokesman Mike Anderson-Reade, Sharks Board boats had been out sampling the passing shoals which, officials had discovered, were made up of red eye, mackerel and maasbanker and not of the illusive little silver fish.
Sardines had been offered for sale along the coast earlier this week but these had been brought here from Mossel Bay, he added.
