Islamic School scoops volleyball win

The team had to clinch its win against hosts ZMS, which was playing on home ground.

FOR the third consecutive year, the Port Shepstone Islamic School open division boys’ team scooped the top position at the AMS Provincial Volleyball Tournament held at Zakariyya Muslim School (ZMS) in Stanger last Saturday. Nine schools from around KZN took part.

The team, comprising Muhammad Bhaiyat, AbuBakr Desai, Ridwaan Desai, Uzair Desai (captain), Mohammed Saaber Shaik, Mohammed Sohail Shaik and Aadil Desai defied all odds to win both round robin games, as well as the final.

The dedicated coaches, Shuaib Sheik Fareed and Premchand Bhugwandin praised ‘their boys’ for the excellent team effort and sportsmanship.

The U17 division narrowly lost to Al Falaah College in the semi-finals. The winning team was presented with trophies and a medal by principal, Moulana Khamissa at a special assembly.

Islamic School played host to a school of professional Qiraat reciters and ten pupils tested their talents against pupils from Pietermaritzburg Madressa Tareetul Quraan, performing for approximately 200 people.
