THE De Beers English Olympiad hosted by Rhodes University encourages pupils to explore creative writing talent and 32 Port Shepstone Islamic School pupils took on the challenge. Umar Farooq, Zahra Rangila, Sahal Dawjee, Camilla Heilbron and Zakiyya Rawat achieved silver awards and certificates were awarded by principal Moulana Imraan Khamissa at assembly.
Recently the school hosted a successful open day for new grades 1 to 3 pupils and enthusiastic parents and prospective pupils met teachers and viewed the facilities.
Two weeks ago approximately 450 parents, pupils and well-wishers were treated to a tantalising five-course meal at the annual fund-raising dinner held at the civic centre. The guest, Inayet Petker, a naturopath, vocal artist and motivational speaker, captivated the audience through an interactive session on ‘Mind, body and soul connection’.
Last Saturday, Islamic School athletes braved the chill to take part in the AMS cross-country race in Durban and Ridwaan Desai (U19) and Muhammad Padia (U17) both came third, with Umar Desai (U17) taking fourth place and Imraan Desai (U15) taking fifth place.
