Ugu gets ‘down and dirty’

The municipality's management team went back to basics last week.

TO improve on service delivery the Ugu management team conducted groundwork directly dealing with the municipality’s core functions of water and sanitation.

The team was sent out to perform functions which are normally done by the general employees, with the rationale to get a holistic perspective of the different sections of the municipality and how they can work together for improved service delivery.

At a media briefing held at the Ugu boardroom on Tuesday, municipal manager DD Naidoo said the municipal service week is a way of going back to basics.

He said the tasking of management to engage in this service delivery improvement initiative is another way to develop a culture of collective responsibility for a better functioning municipality.

“As a municipality we cannot tolerate mediocrity. We strive to once again become the best district municipality in the province, if not in the country, and that can only be achieved if all employees work together and find solutions to the identified service delivery challenges,” said Mr Naidoo.

The municipality has resolved to conduct the municipal service week four times a year on a quarterly basis for sequenced and tangible service delivery improvement.

“Our administrative leadership will take part in this programme every quarter and will be joined by the political leadership twice a year,” he explained

The critical areas that were identified which need urgent intervention for fast tracked improvement were the vacuum tanker services, meter reading, billing section and the customer care relations.
