MARBURG Secondary renewed its annual rivalry against Port Shepstone Secondary at the derby day held in August. Both schools competed in soccer, netball and volleyball.
Soccer and netball games were played in a ‘home and away’ format. The netball team won both games while the soccer team recovered from a 1-0 home defeat, but won 3-0 away from home to achieve a 3-1 aggregate victory.
The surprise results came from volleyball where Marsec managed to overcome Sheppie Secondary’s dominance in the sport. The Marsec girls’ team secured a two sets to nil victory over the more experienced Sheppie Secondary and the boys required a third set tie-breaker to win.
Marsec girls (back, from left) Sandra Lubanyana, Joyful Gambushe, Ayanda Hlongwa, Nomfundo Nzama, Lorentia Tembe, Londy Mtyhide, Aphiwe Ndlela, Unathi Dimane, Kuhle Mthembu, Nosibusiso Khwela and Paphamile Luthuli (front) won their game at the recent derby day.
