MERLEWOOD Primary pupils were actively engaged in celebrating Arbor Week. Junior primary pupils had a colouring-in competition, and concluded the week with a little concert about preserving trees and nature.
The intermediate phase held a special assembly, and were addressed by Ntomfuthi Bhengu from the Department of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs.
They also had poetry recitals and a few choral items to conclude their assembly.
Grade 7s cooked up a storm with their solar cookers. The aroma of chicken and beans wafted across the grounds as pupils tucked into their own cooking.
The enviro club was tasked with sprucing up existing plants and giving them some TLC. Grade 4 and 5 pupils were addressed by Pastor Jonathan Munsamy from End Time Believers Christian Fellowship, who spoke to pupils about the all-seeing eye and the importance of respect for God, others and self.
