Update: Two arrested for torturing pensioners

One of the suspects was shot while resisting arrest.

TWO suspects have been arrested in connection with brutal torture and robbery of a Scottburgh couple in their 80s two weeks ago.

A Scottburgh Cluster Detective Task Team and the KwaZulu-Natal Crime Intelligence Task Team teamed up to arrest two suspects in the KwaDabeka Township near Pinetown.

One suspect attempted to resist arrest and pulled out a firearm. A struggle broke out between one of the arresting officers and the suspect. Shots were fired and the suspect was injured in the thigh. The suspect is currently in hospital under police guard.

The second suspect appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court on September 11 and remains in custody. Police expect further arrests to be made soon.

The couple’s vehicle was recovered in Pinetown two days after the attack.
