THE Department of Agriculture, in conjunction with the Department of Rural Development, hosted a ‘Spelling A’ competition for schools from five municipalities recently. Gr 6 pupil, Ashendrin Govender took part and has been selected to represent RA Engar at district level in the next round later this year.
A special programme was held last Friday to celebrate National Arbor Week and to make pupils aware of the importance of protecting and conserving trees and plants.
A very informative and interesting talk was presented by Morgan Naidoo, chairman of the Umbango River Conservancy, who impressed the need to conserve the environment.
Poster displays, poetry recitals, skits and rap songs were the medium for conveying the message to pupils, and information on the ‘trees of the year’, namely lavender and ironwood, was also highlighted.
The Southern KwaZulu-Natal Under 9 cricket tournament was held at Marburg Secondary recently and it was a fun-filled and exciting event for all pupils as they competed against other neighbouring schools. At the end of the day both teams emerged victorious and proudly adorned with medals.
