[VIDEO] Baby airlifted to hospital after trailer overturns

Paramedics treated more than 30 injured people.

A BABY had to be airlifted to hospital when a tractor towing a trailer overturned on a narrow dirt road about 10km from Hibberdene earlier this morning. More than 30 people being transported to a local farm league soccer game were injured in the accident.

Rob Mckenzie, KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesman, said the most seriously injured patient was a baby, just over a year old, who had sustained critical injuries.

“She was treated by advanced life support paramedics, and the Department of Health KZN air ambulance was called to airlift her to a hospital in Durban,” he said.

He said the helicopter landed on a nearby soccer field.

Mr Mckenzie added that most of the patients sustained only minor injuries. “A few that were seriously injured were transported to local hospitals.”

Mr Mckenzie said that paramedics found some patients lying in the road, some in the sugar cane fields and some walking around. FOR MORE PHOTOS, CLICK HERE.
