Illegal dumper faces fine

He has also been given seven days to remove the rubble.

A MAN was handed a R2 000 fine for dumping roadworks debris at Shooters Hill on the way to Spiller’s Wharf in Port Shepstone.

He has also been given seven days to remove the rubble.

This was after DA Ward 18 Councillor Carole Potter responded to a call by a resident who witnessed the dumping of the debris from the roads maintenance programme along the R102.

“I went down and managed to get one of the two vehicles on camera, the other had gone by then,” she said.

She added that they were fined by a Hibiscus Coast Municipality’s Law Enforcement officer.

“Two weeks ago there was no sign of any dumping, but now there is tons of it, coupled with dumping from other people. It has got to stop,” she said.

“Too many businesses are dumping where they like, and contracts are given for work to be done without checking where rubbish is going to be disposed of,” she said. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ON ILLEGAL DUMPING.
