THARISH Ranjith and Sachin Sookoo have done Port Shepstone Secondary proud by receiving silver medals at the National Science Expo held in Boksburg recently. Sachin was further nominated for an international qualifying interview.
Their efforts are commendable as 822 pupils from five different countries presented their projects at the expo. Judges were extremely impressed with their projects entitled ‘Energy Recovery’ and ‘Electro-coagulation’.
Gr 8, 9 and 10 pupils took part in an outstanding, historic IsiZulu speech contest at Port Shepstone Secondary. The contest consisted of two tough rounds, the prepared speech and the unprepared speech.
Pupils were marked according to strict criteria by a panel of three esteemed judges, namely Primrose Sithole (IsiZulu teacher at Marburg Secondary), Bernard Mandla Ngcobo (IsiZulu subject advisor GET phase) and Dr Jabulani Nkosikhona Mzizi (IsiZulu subject advisor FET phase).
“Pupils are indeed breaking new ground at the school” said principal Shireen Ramkelawon. Deputy principal Prithiray Dundraj commented that pupils took to the podium with consummate ease. The function closed off on a successful note with trophies and certificates being presented to all pupils.
The IsiZulu speech contest results are: Gr 10: Nokuzola Malunga, first place; Pabatso Macuphe, second, and Busiswa Mbali came third; gr 9: Habiba Shawe (first), Luyanda Nzama (second) and Sanelisiwe Cele (third) and the gr 8 winners were Nkululeko Mkhungo(first), Nokubonga Ngcobo (second) and Ntokozo Mchunu came third.
