Reservoir leak causes problems

Thousands of litres spewed onto the road in Woodgrange.

SOME people living in Woodgrange,  Hibberdene have been without water for a few days due to a damaged pump at the reservoir, which has been leaking for the past three weeks.

A homeowner in Cricklewood Road said she contacted Ugu municipality three weeks ago about water gushing from the reservoir but that nothing had been done to fix the problem.

“Every Wednesday, for the past three weeks, water has gushed out of this reservoir. I contacted the call centre, and have been given different reference numbers but the leak has not been fixed. Yesterday (Wednesday) the water was gushing from the reservoir and Cricklewood Road was turned into a river,” she said.

Another resident said, “Clean drinking water is flooding the street, while we have no water. I am so fed up because there are so many burst pipes everywhere along this district. Why doesn’t Ugu fix these leaks when reported?”

Those living in Cricklewood Road have said that for the past three Tuesdays they have had no water.

Apparently,  there is a faulty switch at the pump. “When the reservoir is empty the switch is not switched on to refill. When full the switch does not switch off and thousands of litres of water are wasted,” said one of those affected by the problem.

Although contacted for comment, no response was received from Ugu at the time of writing.
