Reservoir is still leaking

The municipality has apologised to those who have been affected.

DESPITE pleas to Ugu, water is still gushing out of the reservoir in Woodgrange, Hibberdene.

A ratepayer who lives in Cricklewood Road said she had contacted the municipality repeatedly for the past month.

“I thought that the problem had been solved but last Wednesday it was overflowing again,” said Anna-Marie Swanepoel.

She added that it is clean drinking water that was being wasted and nobody seems to care.

Ugu spokesman Sipho Khuzwayo said the overflow was caused by a malfunctioning control valve of the reservoir, attributed to malfunctioning of the telemetry system in the reservoir site.

“The municipality is to undertake a telemetry upgrade in the reservoir before the start of the 2014 peak season,” said spokesman Sipho Khuzwayo.

“The operation is currently running the pumping manually. While the municipality awaits the commencement of the upgrade, a physical verification programme has been scheduled for electricians to verify levels on a daily basis thereby avoiding overflows,” said Mr Khuzwayo.

A contractor is expected to start with the upgrade work on December 5.

“The municipality sincerely apologises to customers who have been affected by this overflow,” said Mr Khuzwayo.
