Pedestrians can now cross safely

The community was advised to look after the infrastructure.

THE Mbango pedestrian bridge in ward 18 was officially opened by Hibiscus Coast Municipality mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu recently.

The bridge pre-existed along Andreason Road, but the structure had become weakened due to constant flooding of the river.

Construction work included a galvanised steel caged bridge structure mounted onto the existing vehicular bridge along Nelson Mandela Drive.

Further gabions were installed, collapsed manholes rebuilt and walkways reinstated.

“Pedestrians can now walk safely along the stretch of road without being exposed to the heavy traffic,” said mayor Mqwebu.

The mayor also officially opened another two projects in Ezingolweni – the Shobeni Community Hall and a crèche in ward five.

“Community halls are very important to the community because they provide space for people to come together to discuss critical issues,” said the mayor.

She also encouraged the community to look after after the infrastructures and to ensure that they are not vandalised.
