Officer disarms knife-wielding suspect
The man faces several charges, including resisting arrest, possession of a dangerous weapon, and being in possession of drugs.
AN on duty law enforcement officer narrowly escaped being stabbed in Hibberdene on Monday this week.
Officer Devlyn Abbott was conducting ‘stop and search’ duties at about 9am, when he noticed a suspicious man on Hibberdene beach.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said that officer Abbott approached the man who immediately became aggressive.
“The officer tried to search the man, but the he drew a knife and attacked the officer who had to defend himself,” she said.
A struggle ensued, with officer Abbott managing to disarm the man. In the subsequent search, the man was found to be in possession of a packet of dagga.
He was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, possession of a dangerous weapon, and being in possession of drugs.
He will appear in the Hibberdene Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Tuesday).
