Challengers face Spartans in junior cricket final in Scottburgh

RC Challengers beat Spartans Sporting by 153 runs to progress to the finals of the U13 CMCA Elixirlab T20 tournament.

They will play Chatsworth Sporting at Scottburgh High on August 29.

In the game against Spartans Sporting last Saturday, Challengers batted first and made 215-4 in 19.5 overs.

Declyn Cilliers, who opened the batting, continued his impressive run of form with yet another undefeated half-century, making 53* off 26 balls.

Declyn is closing in on 800 runs for this calendar year in all cricket, with one century and eight half-centuries.

Against Spartans, all the batsmen got a chance with coach André Ellapen retiring players after they had faced a certain number of balls.

Saien Chetty made 21* (29), Grayson Greco 20* (10), Zibu Malamba 15* (9), Jesse Langton 11* (11), Ross Downham 10* (9) and Eli Struwig 12 (8).

Samarth Dayal was the best of the bowlers, taking 2-30 in 2.5 overs.

In reply, Spartans Sporting made 62 all out in 18.4 overs.

Zaiden Pillay top-scored with 19 off 21 balls.

Pick of the bowlers were Alwa Ntombela 4-6 (3.4), Grayson Greco 2-3 (2) and Imraan Khan 2-17 (4).

The Snipers U11 have done well in their section, with two wins.

In a previous game, they beat CMCA Sunrisers by 5 wickets.

Sunrisers batted first and made 120-3 in 20 overs.

Abdur Rehman Momla picked up 1-19 (3) and Wihan Holtshauzen 1-19 (2).

In response, Snipers made 121-5 in 13.3 overs.

Abdur Rehman Momla made 30 (25), Matthew Keudel-Schaffer 15 (12) and Eben Schoeman 12 (18).

The next game was much closer, with Snipers beating Spartans Sporting by 14 runs.

Snipers batted first and made 178-5 in 20 overs.

Eben Schoeman cracked 66* (37), Ezra Langton 27 (18) and Luan Holtshauzen 25 (23).

Spartans got close in the chase, making 164-8 in 20 overs.

Enzo Ntombela, with 2-14 (3), and Abdur Rehman Momla with 2-12 (3), were the pick of the bowlers.
