Very few tears were shed at local schools.
THERE were smiles – almost – all round at local schools when the Class of 2015 made its ‘big school’ debut today.
One or two little people found the first day just a bit daunting and, very occasionally, a few tears were shed. Some children simply found it all a big yawn and one little fellow put his head on his desk and went to sleep.
Gone were the long queues seen in previous years. Parents had register their children for grade 1 long before the end of last year so all the administration had been completed by the first day of the new school year. Teachers were thus well prepared and ready to welcome their new pupils.
According to an Ugu District education office spokesman, no major problems had been reported anywhere in the district. However, pupil numbers would only be finalised next week, when a clearer picture of the situation would emerge.
