Financial assistance available for disadvantaged students
Assistance will only be given to those who reside within the Ugu district.
PAST matriculants who need financial help for tertiary education are invited to apply for funding from Ugu municipality.
Ugu is offering financial aid to at least four students from indigent backgrounds who have enrolled at registered and accredited institutions with the Department of Higher Education and Training.
The municipality will assist students who have enrolled for a degree or national diploma qualification in chemical engineering, bachelor of commerce (accounting) and bachelor of science: information technology and or national diploma information technology (communication networks).
“Our district is in need of these qualifications. This is our long term investment as the skills attained by these students will be utilised in the growth of our district in the long run,” said Ugu mayor, Ntombifikile Gumede.
Financial assistance will only be available to students who are Ugu residents, come from indigent family backgrounds, have achieved excellent results in the 2014 matric year and have successfully registered with an accredited institution of higher learning or university.
To apply one needs to submit an application letter, accompanied by certified copies of 2014 matric results and ID, proof of residence from the relevant ward councillor, a letter of acceptance from the university and or institution where one has registered and the proof of income of parents (pension card, payslip or bank statement).
“Applicants must ensure they meet this criteria before applying as the municipality will only consider applications that are relevant to all the listed criteria points,” explained the mayor.
Applications must be submitted to The Manager: Human Resources, Ugu District Municipality, PO Box 33 (31 Bazley Street), Port Shepstone, 4240.
Applications must be sent by Friday, January 30, 2015 at 4pm
