Simoné’s star continues to rise

Her determination has paid off.

YOUNG golfer Simoné Ferreira (9) of Margate Country Club first played at Mt Edgecombe in November 2014 in a SA Kids tournament and won.
She then played at Mount Edgecombe again on January 12 this year, in the Huletts Junior Trophy and won the C division.
Simoné played again at Mount Edgecombe last weekend, in another SA Kids tournament, and won her division again, completing a hat-trick of wins at the course.
She will travel to Bronkhorstspruit in February to take part in a SA Kids tournament to qualify to play in the United States.
Parents of girls aged seven years old and up are encouraged to bring them to the development golf clinics at Margate Country Club on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Boys are welcome, too.

Winners prove more than able

THE course was in magnificent condition for the annual Luckys Golf Day at Port Shepstone Country Club last Saturday.
The scoring was pretty good too, with Peter Govender and Abel Yeeranna winning on 49 points.
Peppy Govender and Dr Ayoob Bux were counted out into second place, while Krish Kandasamy and Paul Naidoo were third on 48 points.
Ewald Ziervogel won the competition at Port Shepstone Country Club on 45 points last Wednesday.
In second place was Charles Mostert on 41 points, counting out Charles Hulley.
The Kingfisher Bowling Association Golf Day will be played this Saturday, January 31.

Steady scores at Southbroom

GEOFF Skelton and Don Osbourn won the competition at Southbroom Golf Club last Wednesday on 48 points.
They edged out Joe Carolan and Gerald Fitzgerald, as well as Colin Steyn and George Haswell, by one point.
The women’s comp was won by Jeanne Powell and Barbara Cannon on 44 points, from Hanna Hierhold and Heather Anderson on 43 points.
On 42 points were Mari Fielden and Sandra Luus, Pam Quarmby and Candida Amm, and Geraldine Treherne and Jenny Westray.
Saturday’s comp saw George Haynes and Mike Jacquet take the honours on 48 points, by one from Dave Page and Osie Osborne.
In third on 46 points were Bob Thomas and Gerald Fitzgerald, on a countout from Malcolm Greenland and Dave Page.
In the women’s comp Mari Fielden and Augustine D’Ewes took first place on 47 points, thanks to the countout, with Sandra Luus and Jeanette Peyios having to settle for second place.
In third spot were Candida Amm and Lorraine Cook on 42 points, as well as Lorna Johnson and Yvonne Janvier.
