Water supply improvements for Murchison
Contractors were advised to employ local people, especially women.
AFTER many protests and the blocking of the N2, Ugu has finally heard the cries of the Murchison residents to improve the water supply system in the area.
Last Friday Ugu leadership held a sod-turning ceremony for the Murchison bulk water supply project. The Maveshe Community Hall was packed to capacity as residents wanted to hear what the municipality had to offer.
Ugu mayor, Ntombifikile Gumede told the community that work would soon start on the R97-million project.
She explained the current pump station is not coping with the demand and definitely won’t be able to to sustain the future demand.
Work on the Murchison bulk water supply project is expected to start this month, and the projected is estimated to take 40 weeks to complete.
“The community will be glad to know that sixty people will get jobs and get a daily salary of R 199.20,” said the mayor.
Contractors which will be working on this project are KwaMawewe Development Consultants CC, Pilcon Projects, Heydricks Civils and Winwater Mechanical and Electrical Projects.
