WOODGRANGE Primary prides itself on pastoral care, especially during breaks. Prefects support teachers who are on daily ground duty over and above their many other leadership roles. These pupils pride themselves on ensuring a clean environment, positive discipline amongst peers during intervals, as well as maintaining strict time schedules. All prefects are congratulated and wished a productive 2015.
An extremely beneficial parents’ meeting was held on February 3 for parents of those children who failed last year or received ‘progressed’ on their 2014 report card. Teacher Ansua Moodley addressed parents about learning barriers and colleague Ransha Chetty explained the need for parents to check on homework, assignments and school projects.
Principal Dr Maliga Chetty informed parents about an intensive intervention programme that every teacher is encouraged to design, adding she is not prepared to ‘discard’ pupils with special needs to the back of the classroom. Something drastic has to be done to give these pupils special attention and her teachers are playing a key role in this. A general parents’ meeting will be held on February 21 and all parents are encouraged to attend.
