The municipality has allocated over R1-million to ensure that this programme is successful.

CLOSE to 50 unemployed youth from the six local municipalities of Ugu District have been temporarily employed by Ugu, under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

The young people was identified by their local municipalities through Operation Sukuma Sakhe Programme.

“From the beginning of this week for five months, this group will be working in different Ugu sites implementing environmental services,” explained Ugu spokesman Sipho Khuzwayo.

This programme involves the employment of field workers and interns that will be responsible for data capturing. The municipality was allocated over R1-million to ensure successful execution of this programme.

“This is a continuous project aimed at dealing with the country’s triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality,” said Mr Khuzwayo.

“The municipality is working hard to ensure good governance by ensuring continuous implementation of initiatives that promote community development. This EPWP programme is one of the programmes which drives the municipality in the right direction,” he added.

The municipality will officially launch this programme to the Ugu community by May this year.
