Abracadabra gang arrested

You really won't believe the latest scam that has criminals making money.

Three ‘street magicians’ (witch doctors) found it difficult to break out of handcuffs (like Houdini would have) when they were arrested in Margate last Thursday for conning several people in a ‘double-your-money’ scam.

Thanks to Law Enforcement officers and SAPS Intelligence, the three suddenly found their money-making ‘magic’ had deserted them.

Police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka said the men posed as witch doctors and convinced their ‘marks’ to hand over money in return for an envelope which would magically contain double the original amount when they opened it at the end of the day.

It’s hard to believe, but people (obviously desperate for cash) actually flocked to ‘invest’. Luckily, there were a few sceptics and they reported the conmen to Hibiscus Coast Law Enforcement officers Peter Nxumalo, Shadrack Ngcungama, Wonderboy Mqadi and Simphiwe Ngcobo.

They were arrested in Margate and police are confident that no amount of sorcery will get them off the hook.

Zamani Mhlongo (29), Sibusiso Sydwell Vilakazi (35) and Bongumusa Ntshangase (26) appeared in the Ramsgate Court last Friday on charges of fraud and theft under false pretences. The case was postponed to May 6 and they remain in police custody.
