NINE schools take to the field in the eighth regional final of the Spar KZN Regional hockey tournament at Southcity Christian School on Saturday, April 18. The feisty team from Kokstad will be back to defend its title and hopes to regain the cup and make its third appearance at the grand finals in Durban in July. Creston College is also strong contender and will be looking to dethrone Kokstad after narrowly missing victory last year.
Hoërskool Suid-Natal, Southcity Christian School, St Monica’s, Scottburgh High, King Edward High, Port Shepstone High and Ixopo High will be joining these two teams.
“The Southern KZN Regional is always an interesting one. Played on grass, all teams show wonderful team spirit and great skill. For all involved, it is a fantastic, fun day on the turf.” says tournament director, Les Galloway.
MD for Spar KZN, Rob Philipson said, “I have to reiterate the enthusiasm shown at the Southern KZN Regional. The enjoyment is evident on all players’ expressions, both on the field and off. I am certain this same vibe will be the order of the day down on the friendly South Coast.”
The successful team from this regional will join Highway winners, St Mary’s DSG, St Anne’s from the PMB north regionals, Girls High from the PMB central regionals, as well as Hoërskool Ferrum from the Northern KZN regional, Amanzimtoti from the Durban south regional, Ashton College from the Durban north regional and Durban Girls’ College from Durban central regional, along with another 3 teams from 3 other regions in the grand finals that take place in July at Thomas More College and St Mary’s.
