New chairman for Lower South Coast DA

Dave Watson has taken over the leadership role.

THE Democratic Alliance in the Lower South Coast constituency voted for the new leadership at an elective conference, held at the civic centre last Saturday. Doug Rawlins, who has been the DA chairman for almost eight years, withdrew from the contest a week before the election date and Dave Watson took the chairmanship unopposed. Approximately 80 delegates voted for the new leadership.

Speaking to the South Coast Herald, the new chairman said that, at first, he did not accept nomination but members insisted that he should run for this leadership position.

“I believed in Mr Rawlins’s style of leadership and he did very well as a constituency chairman in building the party,” said Mr Watson.

He added that the main objective now is to make voters believe in the party and deal with the perception that the DA is a ‘white’ political party.

“We need to start now working towards opening branches in rural areas and make every single South African understand our federal style of leadership,” he added.
