LAST term, Port Shepstone Islamic School held a very successful ‘speech contest’ in the air-conditioned school hall (much to the relief of the speakers and the audience!).
Parents and the school audience of gr 7 to 12 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the 12 orators. Two from each division spoke eloquently on a wide variety of topics, ranging from ‘pupil load-shedding’ to ‘atheism’.
Adjudicators complimented the speakers on the high standard achieved and the quality of speeches. Each grade winner received a trophy, certificate and a stationery pack.
The AMS provincial swimming gala took place last term at Hartley Primary for the girls, and Asherville pool for the boys.
Islamic School pupils featured prominently at this fun-filled and highly competitive event.
In the backstroke event, Waheeda Bux scooped first place and Nasmeera Abdulla and Maryam Kadodia were placed second and third respectively in the breaststroke event. Abubakr Desai clinched second position in both freestyle and backstroke, while Muhammed Bhaiyat came second in backstroke.
Recently Rhodes University in Grahamstown hosted a life orientation for school counsellors from around South Africa. Islamic School’s counsellor was privileged to meet past Islamic School pupils who are studying at Rhodes.
Kadija Gani, dux recipient of 2013 continues to receive accolades. She was a top student and recipient of the academic excellence award for first year pharmacy in 2014. The school wishes Khadija every success.
