HIBBERDENE Academy had a fantastic, busy week last week with the masters students from North West University on campus and the school thanks them for the excellent work that pupils enjoyed with them. The advice on subject and career choices for individual pupils is invaluable and the in-depth assessments of each pupil’s strengths and abilities is crucial to them succeeding in the outside world after school.
Dr John Buswell, managing director of ESGA (Education, Safety and Governance Association) is conducting a life skills workshop with gr 10,11 and 12 pupils. The workshop concerns all basic life skills that pupils require and forms part of the certification courses that are arranged for the FET phase required by the IEB for pupils’ life orientation matric portfolios.
Last Thursday was World Book Day and Hibberdene Academy held a ‘character’ competition where each pupil had to dress up as a character from a book. There were wonderful responses from pupils and everyone really enjoyed the day. Nothing can be accomplished without reading and the academy constantly encourages pupils to read as much as they can, albeit not always successfully.
