THE Gamalakhe community is not happy that ward 25 councillor Sbusiso Danca is still on the Hibiscus Coast Municipality’s pay roll.
In 2013, the community staged a march and handed over a memorandum to the ANC regional leadership and HCM mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu, concerning the decline of service delivery in the ward since 2011.
Instead of a by-election, the ANC deployed PR (proportional representative) councillor Swele Chiyi to assist with delivering a better service.
A source now claims that Cllr Danca no longer even stays in the ward and does not attend council meetings.Yet he still gets a salary.
“Cllr Danca did not even attend an imbizo in his own ward. Why is he still getting paid?
“Normally, when a councillor fails in his duties he is asked to step down and a by-election is held. Why not in this case?”
HCM spokesman Simon Soboyisa confirmed that there had been concerns regarding the non-performing councillor.
“All concerns were reported to HCM speaker Ronnie Nair who forwarded them to the ANC leadership,” said Mr April.
He explained that the ANC then deployed PR councillor Chiyi to the area.
“Meetings were held with the ANC leadership concerning the councillor. The matter is now in the hands of the political party,” said Mr April.
“I can confirm, however, that the claims that the councillor doesn’t attend council and portfolio meeting are not true.”
Cllr Danca could not be reached for comment.
