PORT Edward Primary had a busy week playing netball, hockey and rugby against Southcity Christian College. Last Monday, the U13 hockey boys played against Southcity at home, losing the match 0-2; the U13A netball team won 9-7 against Southcity and the B team won 12-4. The U11 netball girls won their match 12-2.
At the Ugu hockey trials last Wednesday, pupils Yana Mhatu, Liyema Mboza, Bulela Ncanywa, Jenna Goble-Garratt and John-Douglas Hattingh made it through to the finals. Last Wednesday, the U11 rugby team played against Southcity and won 7-5 and the U11 hockey girls played a nail-biting match and before half-time, the odds were against them, but with a little pep talk from hockey coach Nerissa Zoutendijk they rallied around and won the match 5-3.
Last Thursday saw the last of the sporting fixtures for the week for the U13 rugby boys and U13 hockey girls. The boys lost their match 20-5 and the girls lost theirs 0-2.
Congratulations to Graham Sole who took third place in the U11 and U12 divisions at the SA Junior Golf Tournament held at Mount Edgecombe during April. The school thanks Digger Elliot and Kevin Simpson for the generous donation of a beautiful winner’s podium.
